HP ENVY 6065e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am enrolled in instant ink. I had placed the authorized black ink cartridge in the printer a few months after i purchased the printer. However I forgot to remove the tape. I signed on the other day to HP Smart and noticed the cartridge error. So I removed the tape. Now the black ink does not work. It worked before with the tape on??? Maybe the printer thought that it was the old cartridge??

Anyway, any help as to how to resolve.

It sounds like your HP printer might not be recognizing the Instant Ink cartridge properly after you removed the protective tape. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to try:

Reseat the Cartridge

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the black ink cartridge and inspect the contacts (small golden/copper-colored contacts on the cartridge).
  • Gently wipe the contacts with a dry lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly and ensure it clicks into place.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Restart and Reset the Printer

  • Restart your printer after reseating the cartridge.
  • If the issue persists, try a hard reset by unplugging the power cord while the printer is on, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Run a Cleaning Cycle

  • Open HP Smart or the printer’s control panel.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead (exact path may vary by model).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and print a test page.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Open HP Smart and check for any pending firmware updates for your printer.
  • Updating the firmware can help the printer recognize the cartridge correctly.

I hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
