Hi @Jimtom12345,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the black ink cartridge (HP 952XL) won't snap into your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that you are using a genuine HP 952XL cartridge that is compatible with your printer model.
  • Inspect the Cartridge: Examine the cartridge for any protective tape or plastic that may still be on it. Make sure to remove any packaging materials before installation.
  • Align Properly: When inserting the cartridge, ensure that it is aligned correctly with the guides inside the cartridge slot. The cartridge should fit snugly into the slot.
  • Apply Firm Pressure: Insert the cartridge into the slot at a slight angle and press down firmly until you hear a click, indicating that it is securely locked in place.
  • Clean the Contacts: If the cartridge still won't snap in, check the metal contacts on both the cartridge and the printer for dirt or residue. Gently wipe them with a lint-free cloth.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If you have another 952XL cartridge, try installing that one to determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, restarting the printer can reset any electronic issues. Turn it off, wait a minute, and then turn it back on.

If you've tried all these steps and the cartridge still won't snap in, there may be a mechanical issue with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
