@JEET41, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Cartridge Compatibility with HP Printers!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP printer is displaying a message indicating that a cartridge is old or not compatible, there are several possible reasons for this issue. HP printers are designed to work optimally with genuine HP cartridges, and using non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes lead to compatibility errors. Here are a few key points to consider:
Genuine HP Cartridges: HP printers are calibrated to use genuine HP cartridges, which ensures the best print quality and reliability. If you are using a non-HP cartridge, the printer might not recognize it, and it could display error messages.
Cartridge Age: Cartridges have an expiration date known as the "warranty ends" date. If your cartridge is past this date, the printer may mark it as old and unusable.
Printer Firmware and Security: HP printers often have firmware that includes security features to detect non-HP or modified cartridges. These security measures can block such cartridges from being used, leading to compatibility issues.
Non-HP Chip Detection: If the cartridge contains a non-HP chip, it may be blocked by the printer firmware, as HP printers are designed to work only with cartridges that have HP chips HP Printers - Dynamic Security enabled printers.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

The same thing happened to me. I retired in 2019 and had just purchased a 2-pack of 952 XL black cartridges (from Sam's or Costco, can't remember which). I only use the printer for personal use now (not a whole lot) and finally ran out of black ink. I opened the brand new (old) package of cartridges and installed them and my Officejet Pro 8710 informed me that the cartridge would no longer work. I looked and saw the warranty expiration date on the cartridges being 2020/11. Looked on the package and saw no warning that a cartridge would not work after the warranty expiration date. I just assumed that the cartridge would not have a warranty (of course my printer does not have a warranty since it is older than these cartridges.....but it still works). I'm not buying the excuse that it is to protect my out of warranty printer. It is to sell ink. I should be able to assume the risk of a non-perfect cartridge if I choose to so so. I don't remember offhand how much I paid for this 2 pack but they are not cheap. If HP is really trying to protect my printer then send me 2 replacement cartridges free of charge or show me how to override this . If that won't happen then I'll be shopping for a new non-HP printer. Since my HP computer (from Costco) can't run Windows 11 (another scam) I'll likely just migrate to another brand for everything,
