printer smudges

HP Recommended

So, I am having a problem with smudges on the left side of my papers too and I read that the fuser roller may need to be cleaned.  What does this look like?  I am pretty sure I know what it is, but have no idea how to roll it to clean.  Please help.

Printer model? If this is either an M452 or M477 and you have a evenly spaced repetitive defect down the left side of the page then  likely your fuser is damaged. Often a crescent moon shaped defect.

Yes it is a M477fnw.  So does this mean I have to get a new printer and it cannot be fixed?

An OEM fuser replacement would likely cost more than the machine replacement.
