Hi @kdoctor3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP printer is not printing black ink. There are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Ink Levels: Make sure that the black ink cartridge has enough ink. You can check the ink levels from the printer's control panel or using the HP software on your computer. It's important to ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges for accurate ink readings and optimal performance.

Clean Printhead: Sometimes, printhead cleaning is necessary to resolve clogging issues. You can perform a printhead cleaning from the printer's settings:

  • Use the printer's control panel, navigate to "Setup," then "Tools," and select "Clean Printhead."

  • For detailed instructions specific to your printer model, visit HP's website for support documentation.

Inspect Vent Area: For certain cartridges, the vent area might be clogged. Check this area on the cartridge, and if adhesive or any obstruction is present, gently remove it using a paperclip.

Run Additional Cleanings: Some printers have an option for a more in-depth cleaning cycle that might need to be run multiple times. Check your printer’s manual to see if this is applicable.

Perform a Reset: Performing a printer reset might resolve some printing issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can download updates from https://support.hp.com/us-en.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
