I'm getting an error for both printheads. This is very frustrating because the printer does not have a heavy duty at all. I had Epson printers most of my life and changed to HP now I get this error. I need inmmediate help. Printer is still in warranty.

@vealeal, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are experiencing an error for both printheads on your HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One printer, here are steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Determine the Cause of the Error

Printhead Indicators:

  • Attention Light & Printhead Icons: If your printer has a touchscreen display, you may see messages indicating "Printhead Problem" for both the Tri-color and Black printheads. On models without touchscreens, the Attention light and both printhead icons might blink.

Check the Printheads

Make sure both printheads are properly installed and that there are no plugs or tape obstructing them.

Ensure Ink and Paper are Ready:

  • Check that the ink tanks are at least half full and that paper is loaded in the input tray.

Printhead Access:

  • Lift the ink access door, wait for the carriage to stop.
  • Confirm the printhead cover is closed. If open, close it securely.

Remove and Reinstall Printheads:

  • Open the printhead cover by pressing the blue button on the printhead carriage.
  • Carefully remove the printhead with the error by pressing down to release it.
  • Ensure the plugs and tape from the printhead contacts are removed. Be cautious not to handle copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles to prevent damage.

Reinsert Printhead:

  • Insert the printhead back into its slot until it snaps into place.
  • Close the printhead cover and ink access door.

Align the Printheads

  • If your printer has a touchscreen, follow prompts to print an Alignment Page and then scan the page using the scanner glass. If no touchscreen, an Alignment Page prints automatically, follow instructions on the page for further actions.

Reset the Printer

  • Perform a Hard Reset:
    • Power off the printer using the power button.
    • Disconnect the power source and wait for 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on.

I contacted HP customer service and performed all the steps and no improvement. They told me to return the printer for a replacement.
