Hi @3af,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Printing using only color ink on the HP Smart Tank 530 can be useful for specific projects like yours. Here's how you can configure your printer to use only the color inks:
To Print Without Using Black Ink:
Open the Printer Properties:
- In the application you're printing from, select Print and choose your HP Smart Tank 530 printer.
- Click Printer Properties, Preferences, or Settings (the exact name depends on the application).
Select Print Quality Options:
- Go to the Paper/Quality or Color tab.
- Under Print Quality, look for an option like Color Only or Color Printing Mode. If this option isn’t explicitly available, proceed to the next step.
Disable Black Ink Usage (if available):
- In the Advanced Settings or Maintenance tab, some HP printers offer an option to print using only color inks. If you see this option, enable it.
Set Color Preferences:
- Ensure that Print in Grayscale is unchecked.
- In some cases, you can manually select to print using Color Cartridge Only under the settings menu.
Workaround Using Editing Software:
If no direct setting exists to disable black ink:
- Open the document in an editing program (e.g., Word, Paint, or Photoshop).
- Adjust the text and content color to a color other than black (e.g., dark blue).
- Print the document as usual.
Ink Management Settings:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Navigate to Printer Settings > Ink Management.
- If your printer allows disabling black ink usage, it will be listed here.
Notes:
- Ensure Color Ink Levels Are Adequate: Your printer may still require black ink to initialize printing, even if you’re printing in color. Make sure the color tanks are sufficiently filled.
- Paper Compatibility: If pigment ink doesn't set, make sure your paper type is compatible with dye-based inks, which are used in the color cartridges.
