May able to provide accurate step if we able to know what printer you but still. In Windows, Open Devices and Printers (search in Start menu), right-click your HP printer, select Printer Properties. Scan tabs like General, Advanced, or Ports for "Print test page" or "Startup test" options, uncheck and apply

I have a MB pro laptop and printer is a 4100e Desk Jet. Its telling me to go to properties, but how do i get there?

Since I don't have MB personally so I did some research and you should Click Apple logo > System Settings > Printers & Scanners (scroll down sidebar if needed). Click your HP DeskJet 4100e > Options & Supplies button. Check all tabs for test page/alignment settings and disable them.

Or: Open any app > File > Print > select 4100e > Show Details > Printer Features dropdown for more options. That's the "properties" path on Mac.
