Hi @kozlo52,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer not printing blue ink despite all your troubleshooting efforts. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue.

Check the ink cartridge contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the blue (cyan) ink cartridge and inspect the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge sits.
  • Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water or rubbing alcohol. Ensure no debris or dried ink is blocking contact.

Perform a hard reset:

  • Turn the printer off, unplug it from the wall and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve software glitches.

Print a test page:

  • Go to the printer's settings menu and print a quality diagnostic or test page. Check to see if the blue ink appears on the page.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool on your computer. It can automatically detect and resolve issues related to your printer, including ink problems.

Check firmware updates:

  • Go to HP's website and check if there is a firmware update for your HP 6978. Sometimes a firmware update can resolve issues related to ink usage.

Manually align printheads:

  • Your printhead alignment might be off, causing ink issues. Try to manually align the printheads using the printer’s menu settings.

Check for air bubbles in the ink system:

  • Sometimes air bubbles can block ink from flowing. You can try to gently shake the blue cartridge and reinstall it. Make sure there are no blockages in the nozzles.

Perform a factory reset:

  • If all else fails, a factory reset might clear up any internal errors that are causing the issue. You can find the reset option in the printer’s settings, but make sure to note down any customized settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
