Hi @normandeau

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It seems like your HP printer is having trouble recognizing the new toner cartridge. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure the new toner cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Using a non-compatible cartridge can cause errors.

Inspect the Cartridge:

  • Remove the new cartridge and check for any protective seals or tabs that need to be removed before installation.
  • Inspect the cartridge for any visible damage.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the toner cartridge and gently clean the metal contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it, and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on. Reinstall the toner cartridge and check if the issue persists.

Update Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for any firmware updates for your printer. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause cartridge recognition issues.

Test with Another Cartridge:

  • If the printer works with a different cartridge, the issue might be with the new cartridge itself. Consider replacing it with another one.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
