GReat theres a solution has taken me over a year to resolve this niggle.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-USB-Install-error-0x80070103-in-Wind...

Come on HP sort you drivers out - if the latest is installed why is an 8 year old driver being flagged.

Spoke to Microsoft and theyve confirmed its down to you guys.
So please stop putting the work to your customers and sort yourselves out.

Thanks

Hi @Mysta1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x80070103 typically indicates a driver-related issue when trying to install a Windows update. This error means that there is a driver installed on your system that is incompatible with the update you're attempting to install.

To resolve this error, you can try the following steps.

  • Open the Windows Update settings: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app, then click on "Update & Security."
  • Click on "Windows Update" in the left pane, and then click on "View update history" in the right pane.
  • Look for the update that is failing to install and note down its KB number.
  • Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx) and search for the KB number you noted down earlier.
  • Download the appropriate update package for your system architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). Make sure to select the correct version.
  • Once the download is complete, run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the update manually.

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can also try the following additional methods.

  • Update the problematic driver: Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager" from the menu. In the Device Manager window, locate the device with the driver issue (usually indicated with a yellow exclamation mark). Right-click on the device and select "Update driver." Choose the option to search automatically for updated driver software and follow the instructions.
  • Disable the problematic driver temporarily: In the Device Manager, right-click on the device with the driver issue and select "Disable device." This will disable the driver temporarily and allow the Windows update to proceed. However, it's recommended to re-enable the driver after the update is complete to ensure proper functionality.
  • Use the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter: Download and run the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter tool from the official Microsoft website. This tool can help you hide the problematic update temporarily, so it doesn't attempt to install again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
