Hi @Brian2074,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When printing photos on 6x4 paper with your HP Smart Tank 7005 All-In-One printer and the image is not properly aligned, there are several steps you can take to adjust the settings and ensure proper placement. Follow these instructions:

1. Check Paper Size and Type Settings

Printer Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app or the printer driver software on your computer.
  • Go to Print Settings or Preferences.
  • Ensure that the paper size is set to 6x4 (4x6) inches and the paper type is set to Photo Paper.

Print Dialog:

  • When you initiate the print job, check the print dialog box.
  • Ensure the paper size is set to 6x4 inches and the orientation is correct (portrait or landscape).

2. Adjust Photo Position

  • Print Preview:
    • Before printing, use the print preview option to see how the image will be placed on the paper.
    • If the image is not centered or is cropped, use the scaling or fit to page options to adjust the image placement.

3. Borderless Printing

  • Ensure that borderless printing is enabled if you want the photo to cover the entire 6x4 paper without margins.
    • In the printer settings, look for an option like Borderless Printing or Print Borderless and enable it.

4. Printer Calibration

  • Align Print Heads:
    • Sometimes, print head alignment can affect the positioning of the printed image.
    • Go to the printer settings or control panel, and find the option to Align Print Heads or Printer Alignment.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.

5. Use Photo Printing Software

HP Smart App:

  • Use the HP Smart app's photo printing feature, which often provides better control over photo printing settings.
  • Open the HP Smart app, select your photo, and follow the on-screen instructions to print. Ensure that the correct paper size and type are selected.

Other Photo Printing Software:

  • Consider using dedicated photo printing software like HP Photo Creations, Adobe Photoshop, or any other photo editing software that provides more precise control over photo placement and scaling.

6. Manual Adjustment

  • If the automatic settings are not giving the desired results, you can manually adjust the position of the photo:
    • In photo editing software, add a white border to the bottom of the image to counteract the cropping at the top.
    • This can be done by increasing the canvas size and centering the photo.

7. Update Printer Firmware and Software

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware and the HP Smart app or printer driver software are up to date.
    • Check the HP Support website for the latest firmware updates and install them if available.

8. Test Print

  • After making adjustments, print a test photo to see if the issue is resolved. Make further adjustments if necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Elohi_NR, thank you for your detiled list of possible fixes. Unhappily, I have been through them but have not been able to fix the problem. I am on a Mac running Sonoma 14.5, and the printer is connected via the local WiFI. The problem is that when I try to print a photo on 6x4 paper it will always leave a 1cm white margin at the foot of the print. I have no problem with printing otherwise.

I have tried printing using the Apple print system with a photo in the Photo library or a .jpeg file.

I have tried a photo which I did not take.

I have tried printing the same with HP Smart.

I have tried printing from my iPhone, using the wireless connection to the printer.

In all case I checked that the paper size was set to 6x4 and it was set to borderless printing.

I have realigned the print heads, and checked that the software versions are current.

I have not tried manually adjusting the photo, as that takes time, and I expect the printer to work.

Prior to purchasing the printer a month or so ago I was using a Canon MG6360, connected via USB, and that worked correctly.

So I dont know what else to do to get it to print correctly. Can you provide any further assistance please?
