I keep getting notification that there is a firmware update for my printer. I do the download and install. The process scans for printers, finds mine, but won't allow me to select it. It also shows the status as up to date. How can these updates be applied or are they not needed?

Hi @mart12341,

I'd like to help!

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Could you share image of the status on the printer?

You could also, verify the update by printing the status page that would have an update ID and cross verifying on the HP Website.

  1. Load plain U.S. letter or A4 paper in the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  3. Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Printer Status Report to print the report.

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the reply Jay_G24.

I've done the power reset and tried again. I still get the screen above. I cannot select the printer. Does this mean I don't need the update?

The printer status report shows I have firmware version PALFASPPXN003.2048B.00 , firmware patch no. 0.

The latest firmware update was issued on Jan 25, 2021 according to the website.

Thanks Jay_G24.

So when I get these notifications that turn up weekly, I can just ignore them.
