HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw and my printer is perpetually getting a 79 Service Error and rebooting - but only when connected to the outside Internet. And yes, I have 3rd party toner...

Troubleshooting I have tried:

Power cycle - no effect

Update firmware via printer menu - no effect

FTP'd the HP_Laserjet_Pro_M180_M181_series_20200612.ENG.rfu firmware to the printer - appears to have updated correctly, but did not solve issue.

Disabled WS-Discovery feature in browser printer configuration > Advanced - no effect

Disabled auto-update via printer menu - no effect.

This is incredibly aggravating. The printer works fine on my local intranet, but freaks out when exposed to contact with the outside world.

Hi,

Temporarily disconnect the network connection and then disable IPv6 for the printer.

From the Setup menu select Network Settings, then Network Services and select IPv6, then disable IPv6 and confirm.

Restart the printer and connect it back to the network, then check for any difference:

I forgot to put that in my initial post, but I have already disabled IPv6 (and rebooted) and it had no effect.

So I have found a workaround, though I don't like it at all. I went into my modem/router settings and disabled internet access for my printer. It can still access the local intranet and receive print jobs wirelessly, but cannot communicate with the Internet to get updates. Clunky, but effective so far.
