Just purchased this for its many features, including 1200 dpi printing and scanning.
However, I'm stuck in a very basic panel, 600 dpi print and 200 dpi scan, and "Advanced Photo Papers" isn't in any of the presets, which are padlocked.
I'm really a know-it-all graphics artist who should know better.
Thanks for guidance, had very few problems so far.

Thank you for choosing the HP Support Forums, a community energized by solutions, as we are eager to help resolve your concerns,
I am the @Riddle_Decipher er and I'm at your service (Like a Genie, however, without magic powers) 😉
Did you go through the printer specifications to ensure this device supports 1200 dpi?
Click here to verify, however, I just went through it and I see that you are right.
That said, if you haven't checked the scan settings to change the DPI according to your preferences: Click here
The best and maximum DPI settings will allow you to print in the best DPI mode.
If these settings are absent then please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. All the best! 🙂
Let me know how that pans out,

I have since reinstalled on brand new Win 10 64 OS, with no change whatsoever.
I have run the Doctor on both the Win 7 64 and Win 10 64 OS installs..
I have been through settings on the printer panel, the application, and the embedded web server.
Basic, Basic, Basic. I am stuck in the soccer mom interface.
Padlocks on the print presets.
Security is set to Unl ock Control Panel .
PRINTING IS LOCKED ON 600 DPI. MAX RESOLUTION IS CHECKED
SCANNING IS LOCKED AT 200-300 DPI.

Thanks for the update,
I'm glad you found the solution to your concern,
I have also sent your suggestion/feedback to the concerned team to include this solution within an HP article/doc, however, that may take a while, I appreciate you letting the community know about the solution you found.
Take care and have a good day ahead.

Thanks for taking the time to look into my question.
Wouldn't just a notify on the scan panel do the trick:
NOTICE: ADF ("Document Feeder if Loaded*) is limited to 300 dpi. High resolution scanning is available only with the flatbed option selected!
Wouldnt that do the trick? I mean, the tendency is to leave it on "Document Feeder if Loaded* knowing it will fall back to the flatbed, but without the 1200 dpi scanning option! This needs to be addressed because it is a software black hole.

I feel compelled to add that at full resolution, this scanner is a keeper.
I think the deep black tonal retention is better than an E***n flatbed costing 6x more than the whole OfficeJet.
My film and imaging QA certifications began at Technicolor, Inc. in 1971, and I was mentored later by the great Frank Ishihara, a name that some old farts will remember. At 22 and fullofit, I don't think he liked me very much then, but I did remember some things.

Agreed , I am considering returning this item under misrepresentation.
Where in https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-7740-wide-format-all-in-one-printer-series/768... does it mentiononly 300dpi on the duplex scanner ?
NOR where does it mention the ADF is NOT A3, despite the phycical appearance of the printer making the potential online purchaser thinking it does ?
I am ex-HP from Bill and Dave days and I KNOW they wouldhave said this didnt meet the high standards of customer satisfaction in marketing nor product and woudl have been brought up in annual review of all in the team.
