HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

I tried all the suggested fixes - updating firmware and drivers available, deleting and adding back printer, resetting the printer, turning both the printer and the computer off and back on, and I started getting a new message "The operation couldn't be conpleted. WFBackgroundShortcutRunnerErrorDomain error 0" with every printing attempt since the update, yet the suggested fix tells me this could be alleviated with the latest macos update. I'm confused.

Hi @chlippa

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That error seems to be tied to background processes handling printing tasks on macOS after the Apple Sequoia 15.4 update

Since you've already tried the standard fixes, here are a few additional steps that might help:

Reset the Printing System

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  • Right-click your HP Envy 5055 and select Reset Printing System
  • Re-add the printer afterward.

Use AirPrint Instead of HP Drivers

  • When re-adding the printer, select AirPrint instead of HP’s drivers.
  • Some users found this bypasses compatibility issues.

Check for macOS Updates

  • Go to System Settings > Software Update
  • If a newer patch is available, install it—some users reported fixes in later updates.

Manually Remove HP Printer Files

  • Navigate to ~/Library/Printers/ and delete HP-related files.
  • Restart your Mac and reinstall the printer.

Try Printing from Another App

  • Test printing from Preview or Safari instead of your usual app.
  • If it works, the issue might be app-specific.

Since you've already done a lot of troubleshooting, the AirPrint method or a macOS update might be your best bet.

Let me know if you need more guidance!
