Hi @Rpctec ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the up and down arrows on your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer are unresponsive, and a hard reset hasn’t resolved the issue, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 2-3 minutes to allow any residual power to drain.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Physical Obstructions

  • Inspect the control panel for any debris, dirt, or sticky residue that might be interfering with the buttons.
  • Clean the buttons gently using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

3. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Connect your printer to your computer or network.
  • Check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app or through the HP support website.
  • Install any available updates and restart the printer.

4. Factory Reset

  • Perform a factory reset by accessing the hidden service menu:
    1. Press and hold the Cancel and Back buttons simultaneously for 5-10 seconds until the service menu appears.
    2. Navigate to the reset options using whatever buttons are functional and perform a "Full Reset" or "Restore Factory Defaults."
  • Note: Resetting to factory settings may remove saved WiFi settings and other customizations.

5. Check for Software Issues

  • If the buttons are unresponsive when trying to perform specific tasks, check if the printer can be controlled via the HP Smart app or your computer.

6. Inspect for Hardware Faults

  • If the issue persists, it could indicate a hardware malfunction in the control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
