I have a HP8025 network-connected inkjet printer. I am enrolled on automatic ink supplies (so can't opt for 'Don't check for updates'). The printer continually tries to download an update - but can't. Then I have to back out of the update.
I have checked the community boards for help on this. These are the steps I've tried:
Assign a manual IP address,
Assign the 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 as alternative DNS servers,
Temporarily turn off virus protection (which I do not like!).
I have even tried to set up Port Forwarding on the network router.
Nothing has worked!
The EWS page says 'Secure Connection Required' and 'Click to Enable'. I then get directed to a secure page. But nothing changes.
Is the port forwarding idea a possible way forward? The trouble is I don't know what protocol is being used for updates so I don't know which port to open (I tried HTTP 80).
Is there anything I've missed or anything else I can do?

Hi @Hopeful_Person7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing firmware update issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 All-In-One Printer.
Please follow the steps listed below to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Note:
If you are unable to remove the printer drivers, then please follow the steps listed below to stop print spooler:
- Turn off the printer, and then unplug the power cord.
- In Windows, search for and open Services.
- In the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and then click Stop.
- Now remove the printer drivers and restart the computer.
Install HP Smart App.
1. Download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS, iPad OS),
or HP Smart - Microsoft Store (Windows),
or HP Smart - Mac App Store (Mac).
2. Open the HP Smart app.
3. The app searches for recently installed printers.
- If your printer displays, click it. If you are setting up a new printer, it might display with Set-Up under the name.
- If your printer does not display, click the Plus sign, and then follow the on-screen prompts to add your printer or set up the printer.
