Thank you for your information
Double-sided printing has not been possible on my two Windows 10 laptop computers for a month now.
HP SW: 040.015.1230.21319 set up as net printer. Lanquage: German
OS: Window 10 21H2
Only manual double-sides printing is offered in the printing settings.
In the device settings of the printer "automatic duplex unit: installed" is not available or not permanent. This setting immediatly jumps to "automatic duplex unit: not installed", after I have opened the printing settings.
Can you help me, please. I am not an expert.

Hi @Zerlegealles,
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to print on both sides.
The printer supports the auto-duplex feature.
You can print on both sides of a sheet of paper automatically by using the automatic two-sided printing mechanism (duplexer).
1. From your software, select Print.
2. Make sure your printer is selected.
3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences.
4. Select the appropriate options.
● On the Layout tab, select Portrait or Landscape orientation, and select Flip on Long Edge or Flip on Short Edge from the Print on Both Sides drop-down list.
● On the Paper/Quality tab, select the appropriate paper type from the Media drop-down list in the Tray Selection area, and then select the appropriate print quality in the Quality Settings area.
● Click the Advanced button, in the Paper/Output area, select the appropriate paper size from the Paper Size drop-down list.
NOTE: If you change the Paper Size ensure that you have loaded the correct paper and set the paper size on the printer control panel to match.
5. Click OK to print.
NOTE: After one page of the document has been printed, wait for the printer to reload the paper automatically to print on the other side. You do not need to take any action.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your answer, but it does not solve my problem.
When I connect my printer per USB, automatic double sided printing works correctly as described by you.
When I connect my printer per WLAN (network printer), automatic double sided printing is not available. In the printing properties only manual double-sided printing is available. I think this is due to a problem with the original HP network-driver (SW: 040.015.1230.21319).
When the printer is installed with the Microsoft driver for ENVY 4520, it works correctly. So I think the original network-driver is not compatible with Windows 10 21H2.
Now two printers ENVY 4520 are installed on my laptops, one with the original HP SW for scanning and the other with the MS driver for printing.

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.
--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
--->Select your HP printer.
--->Select Uninstall.
--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
--->Click on the Drivers tab.
--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
--->Select OK.
--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
--->Close Devices and Printers.
And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from the software and drivers page
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hallo Jay_G24
I tried to follow your workflow, but it didn't help.
After I have reinstallated the printer full-featured drivers from the HP Software and Drivers page (40.15.1230; 23.11.2021) as a network printer
- automatic double side printing is not available, the printing properties only manual double-sided printing is available
- color printing is not available either.
When I connect my printer per USB, the printer works correctly.

Try the below steps -
Follow the below version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Install the printer using the TCP/IP port:
- On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
- Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed.
- Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address
- Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless/ethernet icon on the printer screen
- Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address box, click next
- Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
- Try printing in color.
If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver
Refer to this document to know-how. Try printing.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
