HP LaserJet Pro 200 Refurbished color Printer M251nw

With some documents headline type is broken and body type with ascenders is inverted with the bowls filled. Some body-type capitals are inverted, others aren't. It occurs whether I print directly from the document in the browser or if printed from a DL'd PDF copy. A non-PostScript printer renders it normally. Since HP doesn't list the latest Mac OS (15.5) in the operating system choices above I'm wondering if it's a driver problem, but AFAIK I have the latest version. Has anyone seen this before? TIA.Inverted/broken typeInverted/broken type

@Heurist, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description and the uploaded print sample, the issue you're experiencing with your HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw, where text appears distorted, with inverted ascenders, filled bowls, and inconsistent character rendering is likely related to PostScript rendering issues or driver compatibility, especially with macOS 15.5 (Sonoma).

Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw supports upto macOS 15

Use AirPrint Instead of HP Driver

macOS supports AirPrint, which often works better with older HP printers on newer macOS versions.

  • Steps to switch to AirPrint:
    1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Remove the current printer.
    3. Click Add Printer, select your printer from the list.
    4. In the “Use” dropdown, choose AirPrint.
    5. Click Add.

Convert PDFs to Images Before Printing (Workaround)

If the issue persists with PDFs:

  • Open the PDF in Preview.
  • Go to File > Export, and choose PNG or JPEG.
  • Print the image instead of the PDF.

This avoids PostScript interpretation entirely.

Reset Printing System (Optional)

If the issue continues:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click in the printer list and choose Reset Printing System.
  • Re-add the printer using AirPrint.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

My career was in the print industry and I have many files that need a PS printer. It may be old but so am I and it's a great machine. Thanks very much!
