I downloaded the setup software from 123.hp.com/setup, ran it and went through the steps:
1- On 1st computer, I skipped the activation. Next involved entering a postal code. I tried my canadian postal code, but it is refused. For some obscure reason, at this point the installation software refuses to execute if you don't supply a US postal code. I entered 90210 because that's the only code I know 🙂
2- On 2st computer, I tried to learn from my own mistake and tried to create an account to indicate that I'm canadian. I entered my info (name, email address) but the country says 'United States' and there's no way to change it.
Q: how do I create a canadian account in the installation script?

Hello, @AlfredW – Hope you are well 🙂

Going through your post, I see that you are facing issues while installing the printer. Try the steps below to install the machine with the updated drivers:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control Panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control Panel – Devices and Printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Restart your computer.
- Now, click http://hp.care/2nBqx6H to download and install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

Note that the procedure by itself doesn't work. When I tried removing the HP driver and package (or just the driver) I got this error message:
"Failed to remove driver HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. The specified printer driver is currently in use.
Failed to remove package hpygid20.inf."
I had to restart the computer first before uninstalling the driver.

Also note that the package for which you gave the URL (OJ8710_Full_WebPack_40.11.1148.exe) isn't the package that's available directly in the web site (HPEasyStart_6_0_3355_37.exe), so it corrected things for me but the problem is still there (i.e. the installer that can be downloaded by customer doesn't work outside the U.S.).
