Product: HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Printer

Can't get my C8180 printer /scanner to scan. It prints OK this is a recent issue. 

I have tried uninstalling drivers & Printer and re-installing them all to no avail. 
The printer photocopies fine. 

I really don't want to have to replace a printer because someone has screwed up an update somewhere. 

I have just tried the scan to computer option on the printer and that does not work either. It generates the message there is no computer connection. A similar message appears when I try to instigate a scan from the computer. 

 

Any help appreciated.

Also, cannot get HP Smart to see the printer even though the printer is installed on my laptop, either via wired or wireless connection.
