HP Deskjet 3630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I followed the directions posted by HP sandytechy20 on 10-07-2019 in response to "Can't use or uninstall/reinstall HP Deskjet 3630". I got the the point in the instructions where I ran printui.exe /s and the response was " can't uninstall because the driver is in use". What do I do next?

Ok, let's try the following:

From Services.msc, stop the Print Spooler service.

Right-click the Start menu and select Run.

Type spool and press OK

Open the PRINTERS folder

Delete any existing files within this folder.

If any TMP file fails to remove, ignore the file, but make sure any other file type no longer exists in this folder.

Start the Print Spooler service back.

From the search bar, open notepad.

Open its Print dialog.

Make sure there are no HP printers shown in here, delete any such.

Be sure to move the bottom bar to the sides to ensure there are no additional printers listed

Now try again to remove the printer from Print Server Properties and check for any difference.

Hi,

Try restarting the Print Spooler service and check for any difference:

Right-click on this PC and select Manage, then select Services.

Locate the Print Spooler service and press Restart, now try repeating the steps from printui.exe /s

If the error persists, what is the exact error shown when you try to install or uninstall the HP Software?

Followed your instructions to stop and restart  the print spooler.   I then tried to  remove the 3630 driver via printui.exe  with no luck. Here is the specific error.

The following package(s) can not be deleted:

hpygid17.inf (x64)
This package contains the following driver(s) that are in use:
HP DJ 3630 series; This driver is used on:
HP DJ 3630 series

The following driver(s) can not be deleted:

Driver HP DJ 3630 series (x64) is in use. It is used on:
HP DJ 3630 series

Be sure you remove the print queue first, you cannot remove it from the print server while there is an existing print queue remaining.

If the printer is connected with USB, be sure to unplug it at this point.

From the search bar, locate and open Notepad.

Click File > Print.

From the list of printers locate the HP Deskjet 3630 printer, right-click it and select Delete.

Now restart again the Print Spooler service, and it should not successfully remove from the Print Server.

The HP 3630 was unplugged and turned off...the USB cable had been removed...then the HP DJ 3630 was deleted from the computer before I followed the instructions to stop and restarted the print spooler.

Also, I'm using a Dell Laptop and there isn't anything showing up in a print Que waiting to be printed.

From your error message, it seems as there is still any reminder of the print queue.

Have you followed the steps included on my previous post to open the print dialog from Notepad, and making sure the printer is not listed there indeed?

As previously stated, the HP DJ 3630 has been removed from the laptop. The devices page does not list any HP printer . Given that I did the following:

windows key +R

entered services.msc

scrolled to print spooler then highlight

Right click

click  stop

exit services.msc

shut down computer

restart

windows +R

enter printui.exe /s

click on drivers

highlight HP DJ 3630 series

click remove

click remove driver only (note I've also tried "remove driver and driver package")

Click yes to question about really removing HP DJ 3630

Response is error message that states:

The following package(s) can not be deleted:

hpygid17.inf (x64)
This package contains the following driver(s) that are in use:
HP DJ 3630 series; This driver is used on:

The following driver(s) can not be deleted:

Driver HP DJ 3630 series (x64) is in use. It is used on:
HP DJ 3630 series

Last...I cannot find any print queue that indicates a job is waiting to be printed
