Today I got a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw from HP´s online store. I configured the printer and got the wireless connection up and going with the router. But when I was trying to install the printer on my Macbook I was out of luck. I installed the HP Easy Start application and the printer shows up as an option to install. But when I choose to use it nothing further happens. It just says that "collecting information" and then finally an error message shows up saying that it's not possible to communicate with the printer.
I tried the Apple-installation-way but there I get the error message: Kan inte ansluta till ”HP Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw (498EB2)._ipps._tcp.local.” på grund av ett fel.
The network-info-page from the printer says it has a IP-number and is connected to the router.
Any suggestions what to do?

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to the printer connectivity issue. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
Disable IPv6 on the printer.
-
From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon
.
-
Touch the Settings icon
, and then touch Advanced Settings.
Figure : Advanced Settings menu
-
If IPv6 is set to Off, the printer is already using IPv4. Skip to the next step.
-
If IPv6 is set to On, touch to turn it off, and then touch Yes to confirm.
-
-
Try printing from AirPrint.
Turn off Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS)
-
Print a Network Configuration Page, and then locate the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server.

-
From a computer connected to your network, type the entire URL into an Internet browser, and then press Enter. If the webpage remains blank, try a different Internet browser.

The EWS displays.
-
Click Network, and then click Internet Printing Protocol.
The Internet Printing Protocol screen displays.

Try printing from AirPrint.
Add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue
-
Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

-
Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.
-
If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign
to delete the printer, click the plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.
-
If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

I continued to try to find a solution today. I was on the phone with HP-support for over an hour. Finally I found the solution on a HP-help-page. I used the 5 GHz link on the router when I configured the wireless setup. But the printer only works with 2,4 GHz. Now it all works!
