Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have similar promlem to this https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Laserjet-M209dwe-is-a-piece-of-garba...

USB connecion does not work because this printer requires WiFi connection to enable USB-printing. Only HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software is available. The printer cannot be connectect PEAP protected WiFi netowork. Printer will only ask password not a username.

Yes, it appears that the HP M209dwe is a piece of garbage and I was going to return it to the shop. However, I tried one last thing to get this printer going and it worked.

1. First, get rid of  the HP Smart app and anything similar that wants to set the printer up on the internet.

2. Delete all printers associated with it in your printer & scanner control panel

3. Reboot your pc as a matter of cause along with the printer with the usb cable disconnected.

4. Open your printer & Scanner control panel and plug in the usb cable in the back of the printer.

5. Windows 10 will then find it and install the printer via a usb port and install a driver. Enjoy!

Doing this bypasses HP's ridiculous Smart software that connects to the internet, makes you sign up for an account and constantly pops up with messages and fails to print properly. Obviously I would like to use HP's original driver to do it but had no choice to setup the printer this way. I don't have it connected to the internet and therefore have no wifi configured so people can use it to print out from a mobile device.

I have heard that a driver for the model M209dw is available and this would probably work. However, as I installed this printer in a school where every teacher and their dog prints on it, I am a bit reserved about installing this in case I go down the rabbit hole again!

I will update if I decide to do it though. As of yet, I have had no further problems with the  M209dwe and it prints out fine, double -sided and everything using just the Windows 10 driver.

Good Luck!
