I have to pull the entire printer off the edge of the table so that the front of the paper loading tray is clear of the table in order to open the paper tray.   Without doing that I have actually hurt my fingers finally forcing it open. I can also open the tray by lifting the entire front of the printer.  This problem was so frustrating that I returned the first printer and got a  replacement -- but it has the same problem.   (HP's video shows the paper tray opening by gently pressing the top -- not happening here.) --

So far the only thing I think of to do is to get a one or two inch thick  a piece of wood that is  as big as the footprint of the printer so that I raise the entire printer and get the paper tray 'latch' off the table.  I don't think that's an acceptable solution;  the mechanical parts of this printer should work on a table  without having to construct something.  (Adjustable rubber feet would be a good idea.)

I agree that does not sound right. I have run into this problem a few times with clients and normally we find that the surface they are putting the tray on is not level and puts stress on the frame. I suggest you try it on a truly flat surface like a kitchen counter to confirm it works properly.

Same problem when it's on the kitchen counter.  But thanks for proposing it.
