@homayounhadi317, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're unable to start a scan directly from the HP OfficeJet 3830 printer panel after a recent update, although scanning still works via HP Smart on your computer. Let's get that panel functionality restored.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall and the printer.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This clears temporary glitches that may have occurred after the update.

Reinstall the Printer Firmware (if available)

Sometimes, updates can partially install or cause firmware mismatches.

  • Go to the Official HP® Support
  • Select your OS and download the latest firmware.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update.

Reset the Printer Settings

This will not delete your Wi-Fi settings but can help restore default scan behavior.

  • On the printer panel, tap the Settings (gear icon).
  • Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the reset.

Note: You may need to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi after this step.

Re-enable Web Services

If Web Services were disabled during the update, scan-to-email or cloud scan features may stop working.

  • On the printer panel, go to Settings > Web Services > Enable Web Services.
  • Follow the prompts to re-enable.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

@homayounhadi317, Thanks for getting back, and I’m sorry to hear the issue persists. Since scanning from the HP OfficeJet 3830 panel stopped working after a recent update, and HP Smart still works, this points to a driver or service-level conflict introduced by the update.

Let’s try a more advanced fix:

Uninstall HP Software Completely

  • Disconnect the printer from your PC (USB or Wi-Fi).
  • Open Add or Remove Programs in Windows.
  • Uninstall anything named HP OfficeJet 3830, HP Smart, or HP Scan.
  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click any HP printer icons, and select Remove Device.

2. Reset Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service

This service enables scan functionality from the printer panel.

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right-click > Properties > Set Startup Type to Automatic, then click Start.
  • Also ensure these services are running:
    • DCOM Server Process Launcher
    • RPC Endpoint Mapper
    • Shell Hardware Detection

Reinstall HP Software

  • Visit 123.hp.com and enter OfficeJet 3830.
  • Download and install the full feature driver package.
  • Reconnect the printer only when prompted.

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode (if needed)

If the printer panel still doesn’t respond:

  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi using Wireless Setup Wizard.

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.

Hello Max3Aj,

Pardon me for asking this, but since everything seems to work from the computer side using HP Smart, would you not think that the problem is on the printer side?

Is there any way to uninstall the latest firmware on the printer/
