Greetings,

My printer is connected via USB, and I would like to change it to ethernet so that others can use it.

You can use software to change from USB to wireless:

Is it possible to use software to change from USB to ethernet?

The manual doesn't cover this, and the automated Virtual Agent is useless.

Thanks,

Shane.

If you plug in a network cable it should automatically connect to your network. Once connected and you confirm you have connection, wait 5 minutes and then print a configuration page. This page should have the network address on it. Then you just need to follow the add a printer steps on each computer that wants to print to it. I recommend using the HP Universal Print Drive over the Microsoft Supplied drivers. For your computer that is currently connected USB, you can just to the control panel>devices and printers and right click on the icon of your printer and select printer properties. Click on the port tab, click add new port and create a TCP/IP port using the address from the printer.

Thanks for your feedback. Everything sounded a bit complicated, so I removed the following apps:

HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 Basic Device Software
HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 Help
HP ePrint SW
HP Smart

After restarting, I installed the Full Feature Software on my computer and the basic drivers on the second computer.

I noticed that HP Smart installed itself again. It sometimes interferes with the desktop installation. Is it safe to remove it?
