Just bought a Color Laser 150a. Brand new, no driver for my Mac. Printer and Mac do not communicate.
Tested on windows, the printer works. The HP support says "don't worry about drivers, your system does not need any, use AirPrint". Unfortunately the printer is a 150a not a 150nw, no wireless or airprinting connection. How can I solve the issue?
Is there a way to adapt Linux driver on a Mac?
Is there a way to by additional tools to Mac the 150a woking? It seems I just bought a heavy, expensive sigle big brick.
Can someone help me to solve this problem?
Thanks a lot

Hi,
Make sure the printer is ready and connected to your Mac, then click the Apple icon and then About This Mac, click the System Report button.
Select USB from the left pane, can you see the printer listed under USB?
Install and launch the HP Smart app and follow the steps on screen to add a printer, may you able to see or add your printer then?

Dear ShlomiL,
thanks a lot for your replay.
I followed your indications, unsuccessfully. HP Smart app does not recognise the printer. The app enters in a continuous loop among the "connect using USB" window and "connecting to the printer..." but nothing happens.
As for the Mac, the system recognise the printer that is connected through USB. It appears both in the printer panel (pressing add new printer it says software isn't available, contact the manufacturer) and in system report.
Here the message copied in system report:

I tried several times without any effect.
My new printer is perfectly silent, useless, but at least not noisy...

Actually, that makes sense as the printer is not compatible with Mac computers, I afraid any Linux driver will not be applicable too, as there is no any such.
You may find its specifications below, the printer is only supported on Windows 7 or later Windows operating systems.

Only network-enabled HP Laser printers are supported on Apple devices (either Mac OS or iOS) using AirPrint.

Ddear ShlomiL,
I thank you for the answer, unfortunately I can't press Thumb Up, of Solved, as the problem is not Solved. I t is true I have now acknowledged I bought a HP product without having enough information to properly choose.
You've been of a great help, and I really thank you, in understanding the reason I have a new expensive brick on my desk.
I would suggest to take courage and be really clear in advertising the product, for other customers in the future.
All the best.
Alberto

This is so shocking!
I also just bought the 150A from Currys last month (Jan 2020) and I am super shocked that I cannot use it with my MAC. All I have at home are MACs and I just wasted my money.
I paid GBP129 for this and after I installed it I realised that John Lewis was selling the 150nw for the same price as the 150a at Currys. Not much I could do as I already opened the box. I thought that I will simply settle for the 150A nevermind but now that it is completely useless with a MAC I find it ridiculous.
I absolutely agree with you Alberto - in 2020 if a product is not MAC compatible then it should be clearly stated and not hidden in a specifications document.
HP - any way this can be solved?

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your printer. I also did the same thing in assuming the HP printer would work with my macs. Long story short it does....
You need to get some Samsung drivers, which you can download from apple here.
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL905
It looks like the hardware is compatible with a Samsung printer - the Samsung CLP-620 Series.
Once you've downloaded the above drivers, install them, the add your printer. In the use menu, select "Select Software", then search for CLP-620. The samsung one should appear. It should then just work!
Hope that helps.

Dear Crisward, Thanks a lot for your replay.
I have just tried your suggestions, and the printer works perfectly.
It seems you've solved the problem.
To everyone with the same problem.
Follow Crisward's instructions.
Download lastest driver, install Samsung CLP-620 Series and enjoy your printer on a Mac.
You have all my gratitude!
