HP Color LaserJet 5500dn Printer
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and older

Hi,

I have an old Color LaserJet 5500, conencted to an old MacBook Pro with Leopard OSX (no earlier version works with that printer).

Last time I tried to print, I unfortunately noticed the computer doesn't ”see” the printer anymore.

I tried a cold reset , reinstalled OSX, download driver with no luck. Plus, the Configuration sheet doesn't show up the IP address so I'm unable to connect manually.

Any idea?

Many thx

If the printer does not get an IP address then it is possible that the network card has failed. On this model the network card should be a removable Jet Direct card. If the printer will print self tests from the control panel I would order a replacement network card from Ebay. I would recommend getting a T620N or higher card to ensure compatibility with newer web browsers.

Hi Repairtrooper,

Thx for your quick response.

Changing the Ethernet is one solution I think would work. Cheap and easy to install.

But the Configuration page I print is the one, not the usual one:

If the printer is configured with EIO cards (for example, an HP Jetdirect Print Server) or an optional hard disk drive, an additional configuration page will print that provides information about those devices.

Maybe that's why the IP adress is not listed. I'm wonder how to access the usual Configuration Page.

Thx again for your help! 🙏
