Envy 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I help a daycare that has a bunch of Windows 10 HP computers. They normally print to a large Canon laser printer, but after installing the HP Envy 4520 printer software, their computers keep reverting to it as their default printer. Which they don't want. I have turned OFF the "Let Windows Manage my default printer" and then we've set the Canon as the default, but within a day, they'll find the HP Envy is their default again even though they rarely print to it.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting printer defaulting issues, I am glad to assist you.

Follow these steps to set the default printer:-

Select Start > Settings . Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage. Then select Set as default.

If the issue still persists, this might be a driver issue.

Uninstall and reinstall the printer to fix the issue.

Install the printer using the HP Smart app:- Click here

Keep me posted.

If this helps, please mark the public post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

I wish this was the answer, but this is happening on 4 different computers, and I have set the default printer to be the non-HP printer over and over (using those same steps you mentioned). I have also reinstalled the software on two of the four computers. The problem persists, and it seems the HP software wants to take control and keeps changing the Windows default printer back to the HP printer.
