I have difficutly to find an option in HP Smart app to make the SSID name corrected. So, I followed the HP Vitiral Assistant steps. Not very clear to understand, I can not find a section that says SSID name correction then enter to accept the change.

Hi @arizonaeasy,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out. I understand you're trying to change or correct the Wi-Fi SSID name on your HP LaserJet MFP M140w using Windows 11 and the HP Smart app, but you're having trouble finding the right option.
Let me walk you through the correct and clear method to update your printer’s Wi-Fi (SSID) settings using HP Smart or other reliable methods.
METHOD 1: Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi via HP Smart (Recommended)
🔹 Step-by-Step:
- Open the HP Smart app
- If you haven’t already:
👉 HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
- If you haven’t already:
- Click “+” or “Set up a new printer”
- Make sure your printer is powered on
- If the printer is not already connected to the network, it should appear as “Setup” or “HP-Setup-xxx”
- Temporarily connect your computer to the printer's Wi-Fi (HP-Setup-XXX):
- Open Wi-Fi settings on your PC
- Connect to the printer's temporary network (e.g., HP-Setup-M140w)
- This allows HP Smart to configure your Wi-Fi SSID
- Return to HP Smart
- It should now prompt you to choose your Wi-Fi network (SSID) from a list
- Select your correct network name
- Enter the Wi-Fi password
- Confirm and wait for the configuration to finish
- Reconnect your PC to your regular Wi-Fi
- Once the printer connects to your network, reconnect your computer as well
METHOD 2: Use Embedded Web Server (Advanced)
If your printer is already on any network, you can update the SSID via its built-in settings:
🔹 Steps:
- Print a Network Configuration Page:
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button until the page prints
- Find the printer’s IP address
- Look for something like: 192.168.1.xxx
- Enter the IP address in the browser (on the same Wi-Fi network)
- Log in to Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Navigate to Network > Wireless Setup
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard
- Select your new SSID
- Enter Wi-Fi password and save
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
