Hi @critterboy66 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error you're encountering indicates that the DIFxAPI.dll file, a critical component for driver installation, is missing or corrupted on your system. This can prevent the installation of drivers for your HP ENVY Inspire 7258e printer on Windows 11. Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve the issue:

Steps to Fix the DIFxAPI.dll Missing Error

1. Ensure the HP ENVY Inspire 7258e Drivers Are Compatible with Windows 11

  • Visit the official HP Customer Support website and search for the ENVY Inspire 7258e drivers for Windows 11.
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers package.

2. Manually Register DIFxAPI.dll

If the file is present but not registered:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run the following command: regsvr32 DIFxAPI.dll
  • If this succeeds, try reinstalling the drivers.

3. Install the Missing DIFxAPI.dll File

  • Reinstall the Microsoft Driver Frameworks Tools (DIFx):
    1. Download the latest version of the DIFx tools from the official Microsoft website.
    2. Install the package, which includes DIFxAPI.dll.
    3. Reboot your computer and attempt the driver installation again.
  • Alternatively:
    1. Download the DIFxAPI.dll file from a reputable source like DLL-files.com (be cautious with third-party DLL downloads).
    2. Place the file in the appropriate directory:
      • 32-bit Systems: C:\Windows\System32
      • 64-bit Systems: C:\Windows\SysWOW64
    3. Restart your computer.

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve installation issues.

5. Disable Third-Party Antivirus or Security Software

  • Temporarily disable antivirus or security software that might block driver installation.
  • Reinstall the printer drivers.

6. Perform a Clean Installation

  • Uninstall any existing HP software:
    1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
    2. Remove all HP printer-related software.
  • Clear temporary files:
    1. Press Win + R, type temp, and press Enter.
    2. Delete all files in the Temp folder.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Reinstall the HP software and drivers.

7. Update Windows 11

  • Ensure your operating system is fully updated:
    1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
    2. Check for and install any pending updates.
  • This may resolve any missing library dependencies.

If the Issue Persists

Try installing the printer in Compatibility Mode:

  1. Right-click the HP driver setup file.
  2. Select Properties > Compatibility.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10.
  4. Click OK and run the setup file.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
