HP Deskjet 3050 J610a
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Mac OS on my MacBook Air was upgraded to 10.15.7  My HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-one 610a will no longer print.

After attempting to print a PDF from both Mac Preview app and Firefox 82, I received the error: "“commandtohp.filter” will damage your computer. Report malware to Apple to protect other users"

Downloaded latest driver from HP website:

Mac Printer Driver 5.1 572.4 MB Aug 4, 2020
HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg

Installed in Macintosh HD, rebooted, still won't print.

From: /Macintosh HD/private/var/log/cups/error_log

D [23/Oct/2020:15:48:15 -0400] [Job 231] printer-state-reasons=com.hp.r.1-error

This happened on two MacBook Air computers which are now running Mac OS 10.15.7, a "MId-2012" and an "Early-2015".  Could print as late as a few weeks ago while running Mac OS 10.15.6.

Thanks in advance for ideas/solutions!

I'm getting the same "filter" error message after uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers --twice. That process doesn't work.

I guess it's an Epson printer for me.

The solution is to download (and install) this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...

Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!

If this solved your issue, please thumbs up and mark as solved!

THANK YOU!!!!

Literally tried everything but couldn't get rid of that 'filter' error. This did the trick. You're a HERO. 🙏

Good for Kylepg!

Unfortunately "The solution is to download (and install) this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen..."

has not worked for me, so far.

Still receiving these messages in error_log
