Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hey,

I am using Windows 10 Pro, version 2004, in 64 bit version.

I have had to uninstall my HP printer software due to printer problems. I have removed the software via the windows option to remove software. So in a normal way.

When reinstalling the software (suitable for Windows 10 64 bits) I get an error message:

"installation error: InstallCustomActions: DIFxAPI.dll is NOT installed"

I then searched for this file on my c: drive and found it in many directories. Also in the C: \ windows \ system32 folder.

After some internet searching I tried registering file again in command prompt with the command regsvr32.

I then get the following message:

"Difxapi.dll module loaded, but DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Make sure difxapi.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file, then try again.

I have no idea what to try now. So any help is welcome!

Welcome to the HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

I hope that helps.

Hello SandyTechy20,

thanks for your suggestion but it didn't work.  Still getting the same notification when installing the software: after step 1 of 3 the notification '"Installation error: InstallCustomActions: DIFxAPI.dll is NOT installed" appears.

In fact, now it isn't possible at all to print or scan using the HP Smart app I used the last few days. Adding  the printer again in windows is still possible but because the driver isn't installed HP  Smart will not print or scan anymore. I also  tried to install the basic driver but again above mentioned installtion error appears.

Printing a document out of MS Word doesn't work either (cannot select the HP Photosmart...)

Rather strange however is that scanning with the HP scan and capture app, works fine.... but this still leaves me with no printing option at all...

so I really don't understand what is going wrong...

This might require remote access of your computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.
