Can you please give instructions on how I can downgrade my HP Officejet Pro 8620 firmware from FDP1CN2022AR to an earlier version since this version prevents the printer working correctly.
I'm using MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1

Hi @Samster2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Downgrading the firmware on your HP Officejet Pro 8620 can help resolve issues caused by a problematic update. Here’s how you can do that on macOS:
Steps to Downgrade Firmware
Download Previous Firmware:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your Officejet Pro 8620 model.
- Look for the Drivers & Software section, and see if previous firmware versions are available for download. If not available, you may need to contact HP support to obtain the firmware file.
Prepare the Printer:
- Make sure the printer is connected to your computer via USB (if possible) for the downgrade process. A wired connection is usually more reliable for firmware updates.
Disable Automatic Updates:
- Before downgrading, you may want to disable automatic firmware updates:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer and set it to Manual.
Install HP Utility:
- If you don’t have it already, download and install the HP Utility for macOS from the HP website. This tool can help with managing printer settings.
Run the Firmware Downgrade:
- Open the HP Utility and select your printer.
- Navigate to the Firmware Update section. If you have the previous firmware file, you can select it here. If it’s not available directly in the HP Utility, you may need to run it from a downloaded package.
- Follow the prompts to initiate the firmware downgrade.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Samster2,
Unfortunately, we will not be able to do so 😞
The only firmware file available is the one updated in the website 😞
Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance.
Have a great day!
