I just bought new ink to use with my HP ENVY Photo 7830, but I wasn't aware HP prevents you from using 3rd party ink. Now I am sitting here with two ink cartridges that do not work. I have come to the conclusion from googling that you can downgrade the firmware on the printer, but I'm not sure if this is the case for me since the only downgrading links I could find were for LaserJet printers. I also have an option to turn off auto updates on my printer, but when I try to uncheck the box it tells me I don't have the authority. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

I am sorry you were unaware of this limitation.

There is no legitimate method to "downgrade" the printer to bypass the requirement for HP chipped cartridges.

Every Firmware update, including the very first Firmware that was installed on the printer after manufacture, enforces the requirement to use HP and HP chipped cartridges.

HP ENVY Photo 7800 All-in-One Printer series Firmware Update

Description

This software tool will help you update your printer to the latest firmware. Please refer to Fixes and enhancements for more detail about the firmware update.

Reminder: Dynamic security enabled printer. This Firmware includes dynamic security measures, which are used to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified or non-HP electronic circuitry. The printer is intended to work only with new or reused cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of the dynamic security measures and block cartridges that previously worked. More at: https:\\www.hp.com/learn/ds .
