I've had this printer for a few years now. I've always used it over a USB cable and it's always worked just fine. I moved recently and didn't need it for a while, but I've taken it out because I need to use it. I have literally no idea why, but it literally doesn't work now. When i tried to run the printer software (not the HP Smart app) instead of opening it took me to the setup prompts where it asks you to choose a connection type for device installation. When i choose USB, it tells me to connect the USB cable even though it's already connected and won't proceed.  I actually went ahead and connected the printer wirelessly to my network- an option i do not want to use- and even that doesn't work.  If i choose the wireless connection option, it will list the printer with it's IP address and everything, but it will fail to connect as i proceed.  Windows lists both the wired and wireless instances of the printer in the Printers & Devices area, but if you click 'manage' on them, there is no option to set them as the default printer, only "open scanner".  The wireless version has a message saying "driver is unavailable".  the wired one does not have this message but still doesn't work properly.

I'm literally at my wit's end.  I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled it, multiple times now.  I've tried the print & scan doctor tool.  I bought a brand new USB cable.  I searched around before posting it for similar issues and tried the various solutions posted by HP employees (running printui.exe /s and removing the drivers) etc etc.  I've done all of these things multiple times for literally over a whole entire day now.  I downloaded the latest firmware file and ran that updater- which interestingly enough, did work, but didn't resolve the overlying issue.  What's even more interesting is that I can print from the HP Smart App.  It shows the wireless printer as "ready", and I can do things like print diagnostic pages, etc.  The wired version in Smart App shows "printer offline".  The issue is that I can't print anything from any other applications, as Windows doesn't have a default printer set, and again there is no option to set either as the default printer in the Print & Devices area of Windows.  I'm absolutely baffled as to why this is no longer working.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)

2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.

3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.

4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

When I right-click on the printer, there is no "Printer Properties" option in the context menu; only a "Properties" option, and if I select that, there is no 'Ports' tab, only 'General' and 'Hardware.'

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

After selecting 'Windows Update' and choosing HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 Series PCL-3, i get the following error message:  "Unable to install printer.  The printer processor does not exist."  I get this regardless of whether I choose "Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)" or "Replace current driver".

Do you've any other device that the printer is connected to and it is working well with it?

No, I don't have any other device connected to the printer.

Let's restore the network settings on the Printer:

To restore the printer to the original network settings 1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ). 2. Touch Network Setup. 3. Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.

4. Touch Yes. 5. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

I did that but it doesn't appear to have fixed anything with the issue.

The printer is still not being detected over USB and the software is still unable to install the drivers for it.

Are you able to copy from the Printer?
