Hi,
I am trying to install my printer in my new laptop that has Windows 11 and duplex printing was not working. I tried to activate it through printer properties>device setting but though I changed it to installed it kept turning off once I exited the settings. I tried removing my device and re-installing the drivers from hp's site but now the option for duplex printing does not even appear now under device settings,

Welcome to the HP Community.
The compatibility document does not appear to include this printer:
Windows 11 compatible HP printers
That said...
The Printer Software installation package indicates Windows 11 is supported:
HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4670 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories
The following might work, though I don't know how the Offline Doctor will respond to the "not listed" issue (if it even notices or checks such a thing)...
First
Uninstall the Full Feature Software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Restart the computer and log in..
Next,
Download and run the "Offline" version of the Doctor
==============================================================
Resource – Choose the right doctor for the job
Open Website
HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click the green Download Now option / box
Wait!
If the problem / issue is one or more of
- Printer is Offline
- Cannot print in Color
- Duplex printing has disappeared
- Installation continues to fail
Try this “Offline” Doctor version:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
After the doctor runs, Restart the computer and log in.
Doctor will finish any necessary setups.
NOTES – The “Offline” doctor
As a result of repairing issues,
Offline / Color check / Duplex check version of the Doctor may replace the printer or add a “(Copy 1)” version of the driver in Devices and Printers.
If there are two printers in Devices and Printers,
If one of them does not work,
Try sending your job to the “Copy 1” named printer.
Later
If you want / need to rename the “Copy 1” printer:
Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers
Right-Click on the printer name > Printer Properties > Tab General >
In the top box, Edit the name of the printer (For example, remove the part that says “Copy 1”)
Click Apply / OK to save change
NOTE: The name change may take a bit of time (a few minutes), else Restart the computer and log in.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to run the doctor myself but it displays a data notice with no buttons visible to press accept or reject and after a few seconds it crashes. I also tried running it in compatibility mode but to no avail.

OK. I just tested the offline doctor version in Windows 11 - it works as expected. Obviously, that proves nothing for your situation; the "works for me" result does indicate the software is compatible with the version of the Operating System. It is odd that it crashes in your session - I do not have an explanation or a fix for your result.
Worse, the unexpected result running the Doctor software MIGHT indicate other oddities.
??
Try / Consider
If not done,
Uninstall the Full Feature Software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Restart the computer and log in..

Your printer software installation package is here:

Many thanks for this- it was very thorough. So this helped in that I can now see the option for duplex printing. The problem is that although I activate it, the duplex option still does not appear in printing preferences and when I go back to printer properties it appears as not installed. Also I gave the scan doctor another try and it still crashes.

OK.
It's odd that the doctor won't run.
That's a bit concerning and not something I can explain.
Try to work around the anomaly...
==================================================================
The printer wireless supports 2.4GHz
Make sure the printer is connected to the SSID named network that supports the 2.4GHz frequency.
If you are running a Dual Band network, make sure the router is set to NOT allow hopping between frequencies.
==================================================================
If you have not done so, "Restart" the printer:
HP Printers - Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly
Step 2: Restart the printer
==================================================================
Make sure Windows Updates are current and installed (not Pending / waiting for a system Restart)
- Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates
- Repeat "check for updates" until no further updates are found / installed.
- If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in
