When added a used printer to my HP smart app. During the registration to my account this error came up saying my device is associated with another account and I will not be able to print. This makes sense as the previous owner must not have deleted the device from their account. Is there anything I can do?

@Nathan931, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code UA_400_EB000U0422 you're seeing typically means the printer is still associated with the previous owner's HP account. This prevents you from registering it to your own account and using certain features like HP Smart printing or Instant Ink.

Here’s how you can resolve this:

Contact the Previous Owner (if possible)

Ask them to:

  • Sign in to their HP Smart account.
  • Go to My Printers.
  • Select the printer and choose Remove Printer from their account.

Once removed, you should be able to register it to your account.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

This clears any saved credentials and associations.

Using HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Tap your printer > Advanced Settings.
  • Go to Settings > Restore Defaults.

Using Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Find your printer’s IP address (usually printed on a network configuration page).
  • Enter the IP in a browser to open EWS.
  • Navigate to Settings > Restore Factory Defaults.

Try Adding the Printer Again

  • Restart the printer and your device.
  • Open HP Smart and try adding the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
