@Lauren1981,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Verify Printer Status and Connectivity

  • Is the printer powered on? Ensure the printer is properly plugged in and powered on.
  • Check for any error lights or messages on the printer display. This might indicate specific issues (e.g., low ink, paper jam).
  • Wireless Connection: If you're connecting wirelessly, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device.

Restart Devices

  • Power cycle the printer: Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device: Sometimes a fresh reboot helps reset the connection.
  • Restart your router: If the printer uses Wi-Fi, restart the router to ensure a stable connection.

Check Printer Software/Drivers

  • Ensure that the printer driver is installed on your device (either on your computer or mobile app).
    • If it's missing, you can download the latest drivers from HP Support website.
  • Update drivers/software: If your drivers are outdated, this can cause connectivity issues. Download and install the latest version from the HP Support website.

Wi-Fi Network

  • Check your Wi-Fi connection: Verify that your device and printer are both on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Network interference: If you have a dual-band router (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try connecting the printer to the 2.4 GHz band, as many printers have trouble connecting to 5 GHz.
  • Wi-Fi strength: Ensure the printer is within range of the Wi-Fi router.

Printer Connection Method

  • USB connection: If you're using a USB cable, make sure it's properly connected to both the printer and the computer. Try using a different USB port or a different cable.
  • Wireless (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) connection: If you're connecting wirelessly, ensure the printer's wireless feature is enabled.
    • For Wi-Fi printers: Run the printer’s network setup or wireless setup wizard, which can be accessed from the printer’s control panel.
    • For Bluetooth: Check that Bluetooth is enabled on both your printer and the device you're trying to connect to.

Clear Printer Queue

  • Printer queue stuck: If there’s a stuck print job, it could block new connections. Check the printer queue on your computer and clear any pending jobs.
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select See what's printing. Cancel any stuck jobs.
    • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click Open Print Queue to cancel stuck print jobs.

Check the Account Connection

  • Ensure your printer is registered on the account you're trying to connect with. Sometimes, you might need to add the printer to your account manually (e.g., on a website or through the HP Smart app).
  • Check your account settings: Make sure you’re logged into the correct account on the printer’s companion app or software.

Firmware Update

  • Update printer firmware: Some printers require firmware updates to work properly with your account. Check the HP Support website for firmware updates and follow their instructions for installation.

Factory Reset Printer

  • If all else fails, performing a factory reset can sometimes help resolve persistent issues. This will erase all settings and preferences, so be sure to note down any custom settings before proceeding.
    • Usually, you can do this from the printer’s control panel or settings menu.

Check Error Code

  • Look up the specific error code you're receiving on the HP support website.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
