I am trying to setup my printer for the first time.  I bought it about a month ago and am just now getting to set it up.  After about 11 or 12 attempts at setting it up by myself, I spent the next couple of hours searching HP sites.  Now it's your turn. :generic:    Whether from the laptop or the printer control panel, the error comes up:  "Do not use SETUP cartridges".  I really don't think HP expected me to buy new cartridges right out of the gate.  I can't do anything to get pst the error.

I really don't know what else to try...  I'll take any and all suggestions.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7800-all-in-one-printer-series/9073159/model/9073...

Restart the printer.

If the issue persists, replace the cartridge and check if it works

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Thank you for your assistance.  As I am reading this, I am thinking "How can I update the FW if I can't even setup the printer?"  I followed your directions, though I did it myself several times before I joined the forum.  I didn't work.

And now, according to your next step, you are telling me to go buy new cartridges?  I just paid over $120 for this printer!  I thought of that, too, but told myself "What if the new cardtridges don't work?  Then I am out that money, too."

With that in mind, Raj1788, what if the new cartridges don't work?

Thanks for the PM.  I responded.

I suppose I'll continue in this post until the problem is solved.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Is there a reset by using the buttons?

Thanks!
