Hi @chics,
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for a solution to your printer issue.
I understand that you are using an HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer with a Windows 10 PC, and the printer's Paper Tray Extender is stuck in the closed position. I would like to help with that.
Start by performing a Power Reset on the printer.

Next try doing a copy using the printer's control panel to see if the tray extender will extend.

Hi @Gwilym,

I understand the frustration that you're experiencing. If you followed the steps recommended by my colleague @rb011 on this thread and the issue is still not resolved, you can try the Semi-Full Reset. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
- Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet (don't use a power bar or a surge protector).
If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.
Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific.
First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.
Check Warranty Status: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers.
What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.
I hope this information helps. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck!

Hey there! @Hator_Tots, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!
I understand you have issues printing from your printer and you keep getting error output tray can't be pushed in before done printing.
Don't worry I'd like to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Try doing a copy using the printer's control panel to see if the tray extender will extend.
Try the steps recommended below.
Resetting the printer can clear errors on your printer.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a pleasant day ahead! 🙂

HP 9120 Printer. The extender portion of my paper tray cover became detached from the paper tray cover. It does not appear that any parts are broken, and I can still insert the paper tray cover into the printer without issue. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to reattach the extender to the paper tray cover, and so when I print, the pages fall to the ground and become out of order. There are clearly grooves where the extender is meant to slide within the paper tray cover, but the way the plastic is assembled on the extender, there is no way to slide the extender into the grooves without breaking certain of its plastic parts. Can you please assist? Thanks.

If none of the plastic parts are broken, I would avoid forcing the extender back into the grooves, since it sounds like the tabs could snap.
The extender may need to be positioned at a particular angle so its tabs clear the ends of the grooves before sliding into place. I’d compare both sides closely to see if one end has a removable/hinged section or if the tabs need to be inserted first and then rotated into position.
If possible, could you post a few clear photos of the detached extender and the paper tray cover, especially the ends where the grooves and tabs meet? That would make it easier to see how the pieces are supposed to lock together. If the parts are intact, someone familiar with the HP 9120 tray assembly may be able to identify the correct reattachment position without risking damage.

I was able to do this - after a google search - align the tray within the grooves, push in on one side, align the other side with the plastic indents on the tray cover, and then gently push in (bending the tray in the middle sightly) to allow the tray to pop back into place.
