I have an HP officeJet Pro 9010, which gave the error message`The indicated cartridges have been blocked by the printer firmware because they contain a non-HP chip'.  I reset the printer to factory settings and ensure no firmware updates would happen without approval.  Put the replacement cartridge back in and got the same error message, so assume the factory set firmware is blocking the printer function.  How do I delete the offending firmware driver, and replace it with one that still allows all the printer functionality?

Hi @mcarky,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

A factory reset must have removed the current firmware.

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply, sadly it will be a case of finding another supplier as the December firmware update refused to recognise cartridge purchased in November, before I did a factory reset and tried again. A further firmware update didn't change the result.  The use by date on the toner ink cartridge still has a year left, but the firm wouldn't refund but would replace the chip, no gaurentee.  Being proactive I expect my replacements to work when required, so alas had to buy a new one off the shelf yesterday. I take some responsibility for not checking if the firm had a refund policy.

I am glad that changing the supplier resolved the issue.
