Does any one know how to downgrade the firmware of a printer MFP M277dw to a previous one (i.e. 20160921).
I do have two HP printers (the other one is M521dw) that after the update of the firmware can not scan to a shared folder and got to the conclusion that is not the operating system but the firmware itself. So I want simpy to downgrade but cant find the old firmware update utility. I found on the HP FTP the old firmware but is not an executable (dmg) neither the old update utility, the file is an .rfu. On the printer there is an option to "allow downgrading" but there is no way where I can upload the old firmware on the printer. So the only two options are to either find the old firmware update utility or discover a functionality I don't know to upload the .rfu!
Thank
Raimondo

The issue is actually due to some changes that were made to SMB file sharing starting with macOS High Sierra. I am not sure why you would just start experiencing the issue with the 2016 FW update but I sent you a private message with a link that shoudl resolve your issue.

Hi,
I have a HP8710 that stopped accepting non-HP cartdridges. It was auto upgraded in March 😞
I have the rfu file I like to use for the downgrade, but no process to do the downgrade.
I would appreciate it if you can provide me these downgrade steps.
Best Regards,
GeertB

While this is probably too advanced for most users, here are the steps I used to downgrade my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
Make sure printer is already on the network and accessible from a windows computer. You must know your printers IP address before continuing.

Hope this helps!

Hi DamonNorris,
I tried to follow the steps to downgrade my HP 8710 firmware.
Unfortunately I got the following message;
d:\>ncat.exe -w 100 192.168.123.123 < ojpro_8710_1803A_01172018.rfu
Ncat: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. .
Any idea where this comes from ?
From the printer web interface, I tried to remove the admin password, uncheck "Only Web-Downloaded Firmware Updates", and so on. Without success.

I'm answering my own message here, as I found the solution to downgrade my HP OJP 8710 :
ncat.exe -w 100 192.168.123.123 9100 < ojpro_8710_1803A_01172018.rfu

I tried the following procedure but it didn't work.
The message I am getting is "The system cannot find the file specified."
This is what I entered; "ncat.exe -w 100 192.168.0.16 9100 < ojpro_8710_1834A_08212018.rfu"
I would appreciate your help if you can help me sort this issue out.
I have been looking for a way to downgrade the firmware since it was updated.
I don't want my inks to waste.
Thank you in advance.

Hi @AbiSham
Welcome to the HP Support Community. To assist you better, I would like to know the following:
- What is the issue with the printer?
- What is the error?
- Are you using HP laserjet M277dw printer?
- Which operating system is installed on the computer?
P.s: The firmware on the printer cannot be downgraded.
Keep me posted for further assistance.
