On my hp LaserJet Pro 200 M251nw, the firmware is out of date (20150212) and I'm getting this error: 79 Service Error. When I go online there is no update available. Have tried Resetting and using HP Smart. Unsure where to go from here.

Hi@tlbm,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to issues with the computer not charging and booting. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting, and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Are you able to print from the printer?
- Are you able to copy directly from the printer?
- Did you attempt to perform printer firmware update directly from the printer?
- If you are able to copy directly from the printer without any communication from the computer and are able to print from the computer and are looking only for a firmware upgrade link I will include it for you.
- Link: for firmware upgrade: HP LaserJet Pro Series Firmware Update Utility Please select the correct operating system before doing it.
- Try this link with multiple browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox if IE does not work.
- This link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168 shows you how to update the firmware. Please follow the steps mentioned. It is useful.
Keep me posted. Happy to help!

This error can be triggered by several things. First thing to try is to remove any network or usb cables and disable any wireless and restart the printer. If the printer will boot to ready with no connections then likely a corrupted print job is causing the error and you need to clear any pending print jobs from your computer.
