HP Envy All-In-One Printer (wireless)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I keep getting a notice (every week) that my HP Envy All-In-One printer needs a firmware update. I try to install it every week and it comes back that I already have the most up-to-date firmware. If I scan after I've checked it says no update needed but then it comes back the next week. I'd like to only get notices when I really need an update. (I have updates on auto as well but don't know if it doesn't do it automatically because it is a network printer.) Please help me stop the madness!

@MaryYouBetcha Lets start with power reset as per HP standards, here's how we recommend doing it:

  • Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    • NOTE:
    • HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware:

Before I do all this, I'm trying to figure out why you are starting with a power reset of the printer and then saying at the end "If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware." I can't do a firmware upgrade because both the printer front panel and the computer HP Support Assistant indicate I already have the  most current upgrade.

The power isn't the problem - just the HP Support Assistant issuing an update/upgrade notification every week. Are you saying powering down the printer will solve the notification problem?  If that's the case, then I will go through the power down steps but I don't want to mess with all of that if the end result is just another notification to upgrade.

@MaryYouBetcha I know it looks weird, but the reason I recommended a power reset, is because its known to fix issues with incorrect firmware errors, when done, you could install the latest firmware, if need be.

Keep me posted.
