@PederA, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, are you trying to change the wireless password? HP has nothing to do with the password for your wireless network. If you have to change the password, you will have to login t the EWS page of the router or contact ISP.

If you want to connect the printer to a wireless network or change/update wireless settings, use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button on your router to connect the printer to your wireless network.

  1. Place the printer near the Wi-Fi router.

  2. Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray, and then turn on the printer.

  3. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button  for at least 5 seconds or until the light starts blinking. For Tango printers, press and hold the Wireless and Power buttons on the rear of the printer until the blue bar flashes.

  4. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button  on the router until the connection process begins.

  5. Wait for the light on the printer to stop blinking.

The reset is performed only when you are not able to change any settings on the printer or if the EWS page of the printer is locked.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@Kumar0307 This did not help at all. I needed a full reset to be able to change wifi settings. The solution was to reset the NVRAM:

- turn off the device

- hold simultaneously the up arrow and the cancel key while powering the device

- when the display blinks "NV", release the up arrow and cancel key

If you had just posted this in the manual or on this forum it would have saved me two days of trouble. Please don't delete this post so others don't have to go through the same.

@PederA

The reset instructions are not to be posted publicly. This reset instruction is specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Glad you found what you were looking for. Keep us posted for any other assistance.

Hi,

I am having the same issues as the rest of the community. We have moved and have a new router and I need to connect my printer to the new wireless network. I probably just need to reset it to factory settings. Please send me the private message to do this.

@TTLOGAN2

Kindly check my previous post to know how to connect the printer to a new network using the WPS method. If this did not work, then you may perform the NVRAM reset.

Keep me posted for any other assisatnce.

Hi

I need instructions to perform a reset for my HP LaserJet MFP M28a, usb.

The start key always flashes, it does not print, the pc always sees the printer disconnected. Is there a key combination to reset it to factory settings? He does not communicate with the PC.

tnx

Hi@Fritz11, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Unplug the printer and then reconnect the printer to reset the power module.

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Remove the battery from the printer.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, power strip, or surge protector.

  4. After the printer has been disconnected for at least 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord to the printer.

  5. Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet.

  6. Reinstall the battery.

  7. Press and release the Power button to start a Power On/Off cycle. Do not hold the button down.

    NOTE:

If you press and hold the Power button too long, the printer might turn on and then off without restarting. If this happens, press and quickly release the Power button again.

Unplug the printer and then reconnect the printer to reset the power module.

I had big problems with trying to change the Wifi network using HP Smart App after changing routers and found this thread when I decided the easy solution was a factory restart.

It turns out the problem is not the printer needing to be reset its the stupid HP Smart App , just cannot detect printers not on the same network or with USB cable!

The solution for me was to use the old HP software HP Easy Start App. Worked first time with no problems.

Shame on HP for keeping paying customers in the dark!

Hope this helps Win users as I'm on Mac.
