HP OfficeJet Pro 8210 D9L64A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For some time the 8210 will not print duplex while only using the Hallmark Card program. We us it all the time to print duplex Word, Outlook e-mails, etc. An interesting twist to this is that we also have a HP 6520 Photo printer also capable of printing duplex. Just tried printing a card project using the 8210 and it failed, changed the printer from that to the 6520 and the project printed just like it is supposed to. We checked all the printer setting, software updates and everything is up to date and set where it needs to be.  Any ideas?

I just got an education on how paper weight is determined. The word "bond" is a term meaning a sheet of paper measuring 17x22". I just did a little multiplying and using the weight of 14.5 lbs. of 500 sheets (ream) of paper measuring (8.5x10) x 4.4 (the multiplying factor to convert the size to 17x22) = a whopping 63.8 lbs. I would say the HP 8210 had been doing a heck of the job of duplex printing for years and it finally got a "little" tired. So we are in the market for a duplex printer that handles 70# paper. Got any. This case is closed, thank you for all your help

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you check the paper type, weight and size?

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04959077 to check the Supported card type.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Been using the same weight paper for years. Like I said in my original, When the 8210 failed again, we selected the 6520 printer which is a photo printer and not designed to be a heavy duty print. It printed the card in duplex mode just fine. The 8210 has got a little software problem. My wife prints greeting cards in batches, 3 months at a time. Used to be able to load the paper and watch the finished cards pile up.

Something we tried a week or so ago. My wife created a Hallmark Card two sided card to use as a test. The front of the card has a number one on it. Open the card like reading a book and that page has a number two, the next page a number three and closing the book, the back page has a number four. When you do duplex printing the inside 2, 3 pages print first and the paper came totally out of the printer rather than stop part way out, reverse and print pages 1, 4.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software: Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

  • 1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  • 2.) Select your HP Printer
  • 3.) Select Uninstall
  • 4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  • 5.) In the Devices and Printers, windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
  • 6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
  • 7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  • 8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
  • 9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  • 10.) Select Ok
  • 11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  • 12.) Close Devices and Printers
  • 13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
  • 14.) Type c:/program data and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • 15.) Restart the computer. Once done, please download and install the software from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Hi Echo Lake,  Just tried your last suggestion, clean out anything pertaining to the HP 8210, and reinstall. Absolutely no difference. I was "playing" with the "test" card my wife created for this purpose and the very first time I printed it,  it printed just like it was supposed to. That has happened before. Tried printing 5-6 times more and all were printed on two sheets of paper. Each time I tried printing I always checked the HP Printer Properties and it was right where it should be. This was all being done using run of the mill, 20lb weight paper. Why waste cardstock. Printing duplex with Word, Excel, etc. works great. I'm still trying to convince Hallmark to let me have their software so that I can really "play" with it.  I truly don't understand this one.

Last evening I started looking at the card stock she has been using for years. First let me say I found a chart showing the various "weights" of paper and their various properties. The word "weight" is not used, the word "bond" is when describing the different papers. The 20 bond is considered everyday copy paper and that is what we use for every day printing. It measures .004 thick. There is one 43 bond that is considered card stock. There is another 47 bond that is most used in a hone printer. The cardstock she is using is #70. That measures .010 thick. Now here is what I don't understand. When clicking on the "Printer Properties" there is one called "Cardstock". That option also allows to print on both sides and which way to flip the second side. So, right now we are very confused. If you can't use that heavy paper, why explain how to set it up. Let's assume the paper is too heavy. she can go back to printing on one side, turn the paper as needed and print the other side or is there a HP printer made that will handle 70 bond paper and be able to use the duplex feature? Thank you very much.
