Where is HP Support?  Why do I have to jump through HOOPS when THEIR products fail?   **bleep**?  I need help after the latest Windows update (which I flipn HATE them having the right to invade my computer all the time)... and now I cant scan on my printer because my App cannot find it.... although I can print to it from my computer.... go figure

I understand your hostility, though it might be misdirected.

 

HP Support is not "here" - we are a volunteer staffed peer-to-peer Community forum.

 

Microsoft Windows controls Windows Updates -- HP Support, even if asked, cannot force Windows Updates to behave differently.

 

Product:  Unknown

Operating System:  Windows 10 - 32bit

Software / Application:  Unknown

 

To the issue at  hand:

" I cant scan on my printer because my App cannot find it."

If the "app" you are using is HP Smart (Windows),

Consider

 

Restart everything, including the router that controls your network.

 

No Joy?

Reset HP Smart Application

 

Reset the HP Smart application - This action removes the app data.

 

Open Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Search and Find HP Smart in the apps list

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

 

Example

HP_Smart_Win_Apps-and-Features_ Reset_3HP_Smart_Win_Apps-and-Features_ Reset_3

 

If the app Reset does not work

Next,

Uninstall the HP Smart App from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

“Get” a new copy of the HP Smart application from the Microsoft Store

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

Recent versions of Windows -

AND

Printer Supported and Full Feature Software / full driver printer software available -

 

If you can print using the full driver printer software but you cannot use HP Scan (part of the software),

It is possible your printer software is corrupted.

It happens sometimes -- some Updates yank the support out from the printer software -- perhaps by changing links, moving files, or changing where tasks are completed.

 

The solution

If you have not done so,

Restart everything, including the router that controls your network.

 

If the printer is accepted on the network...

 

  • Uninstall any printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and sign in.
  • Check Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers
  • If the printer is found, Right-Click on the printer > Remove  >> Restart the computer and sign in
  • Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software
  • Restart the computer and sign in

 

Ask if you need help.

Provide the Operating System / version

AND

The exact model name of the printer
